London Textile Fair to add event for Asian suppliers

The London Textile Fair is launching an edition for Asian suppliers in October following demand from Asian mills and British retailers.

The London Asia Textile Fair will showcase fabric suppliers from Korea, China, Thailand and the Philippines. It runs on October 27-28 at Shoreditch Town Hall in London.

Event organiser John Kelley has already secured 35 exhibitors and is expecting 100 manufacturers for the autumn 15 edition.

He said: “We kept on getting requests from Asian manufacturers to join the London Textile event, but, as timescales are different, we wanted to keep the Asian and European manufacturers separate. We have a lot of the big boys in the clothing industry coming, all of the mills that deal with top UK retailers.”

The show will be more selective than those taking place in the region, Kelley said, noting some Asian shows host 2,000 exhibitors, many of which do not export to the UK.

Kelly’s other show, the London Print Design Fair, will hold its second edition on October 29-30, again at Shoreditch Town Hall.

The show, which has more than 60 exhibitors signed up already, switched locations from the smaller One Marylebone venue near Regent’s Park, which could only accommodate 30 print studios.
