LVMH scoops top prize at World Retail Congress awards

French luxury group LVMH was named international retailer of the year at the World Retail awards 2013 last night (October 8).

The award was collected by the former chief executive and chairman of Louis Vuitton, Yves Carcelle, who was also presented with the ‘Outstanding Leadership Award’, for his service to the global luxury industry. Carcelle stepped down from his role last year but remains on the LVMH executive committee.

Private sales website was named pure-play etailer of the year.

British retailers fared well on the night with Tesco’s F&F picking up the award for best omnichannel retailer and Asos’s “Fit Visualiser” winning the award for retail technology initiative of the year.

Debenhams’ “Endless aisle” scheme took home the prize for supply chain initiative of the year.

Over 500 senior figures from the retail industry gathered at the Salle Wagram in Paris for the seventh annual World Retail Congress awards, with guests including Sir Phillip Green, J Crew chief executive Mickey Drexler and Martha Stuart.
