Lynx menswear manager leaves to set up own shop

Paul Lown, manager and buyer at Lynx Menswear in Harrogate, has left the business to open his own shop in the same town.

Lown would not reveal the address of Owl, his new menswear store, but has confirmed it will be in Harrogate. He is partnering with an associate, Steve Mulhaire, who has a background in the music industry and previously owned a music store in Leeds.

Opening on September 1, Owl will house a lifestyle offer of 70% menswear, rounded out with gifts and some women’s pieces.

Speaking to Drapers at the start of the new buying season, Lown said: “Our line of work is about change. There’s room for both [Owl and Lynx] in Harrogate. So far, I’m really pleased with what we’re doing.”

He attended Pitti Uomo in Florence last week and praised the show’s offer, telling Drapers he had secured some exclusive new brands.

Lown co-founded Lynx womenswear with business partner Guy Hudson in 1985, before Hudson bought him out in an amicable split in 1990. He returned to the business in 2006 to take up his position in the menswear store, which Hudson opened in 2003.

Lynx menswear won the award for Drapers Menswear Independent of the Year in November 2013.

Hudson said he wished Lown well.
