Marc Jacobs steals New York limelight

Marc Jacobs stole the show at New York Fashion week yesterday with a collection that paid tribute to old America.

Marc Jacobs's spring 09 catwalk collection drew inspiration from the suffragettes and Depression-era, with aprons, Stephen Jones boaters and structured silhouettes.

Marc Jacobs' focus for next season is the waist, with thick draping and high-waisted skirts and trousers creating an hour-glass figure.

Knee-length pencil skirts and short structured jackets clashed with shiny, wet look fabrics, while plaid was the signature print.

Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Sofia Coppola and Kelly Osbourne were among the celebrities sitting in the front row of the Marc jacobs show.
