Marks & Spencer appoints John Lewis chief finance officer

Marks & Spencer has appointed John Lewis’s Helen Weir as chief financial officer.

Weir, currently chief financial officer at John Lewis Partnership, is expected to work her six-month notice period. Her leaving date will be announced in due course.

She joined John Lewis in 2012 from Lloyds Banking Group, where she was group executive director for retail, having been group finance director at Lloyds from 2004 to 2008.

Before this she was group finance director of retail group Kingfisher and finance director of Kingfisher-owned B&Q. She spent her early career at consumer goods group Unilever and management consultancy McKinsey & Co.

M&S chief executive Marc Bolland said: “We are delighted to be appointing Helen as chief financial officer. She is extremely well qualified and brings a wealth of relevant financial, retail and consumer experience. We look forward to her joining the M&S team.”

Weir added: “M&S is one of the UK’s great brands. This is an exciting time to be joining the company and I am delighted to be part of the team.”

John Lewis said the process to select Weir’s successor will begin immediately.
