Marks & Spencer bolsters board with hotel group boss

Marks & Spencer has appointed Richard Solomons, the chief executive of InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), to its board as a non-executive director.

He will take up his appointment and join the nomination committee on April 13.

Solomons joined IHG in 1992 and has worked in a number of senior roles across the business, before being appointed to the board as chief financial officer in 2003. He became chief executive in July 2011.

Robert Swannell, chairman of Marks & Spencer, said: “We are delighted to welcome Richard Solomons to the board of M&S. He is a chief executive with a proven track record in a global consumer business and will bring a wealth of relevant experience.”

Solomons added: “I am looking forward to joining the board of M&S and contributing to the continuing development of this iconic, innovative and trusted brand.”
