Marks & Spencer opens biggest London store in nine years

Marks & Spencer has opened its first flagship store in London since Bluewater at Colliers Wood.

The 100,000sq ft store in South London marked the biggest store opening in London for nine years. The site is joint located on a retail park with a Sainsbury's superstore and will be amongst its top 20 stores in terms of size.

The opening of the M&S store in Colliers Wood coincided with the first day of phase one of Marks & Spencer high summer ranges hitting stores so customers saw all new product across a large percentage of ranges. Colliers Wood employs the most up to date fixtures and fittings and shows its widest use of segmentation to capitalise on its sub-brands with Autograph and Autograph Weekend at the front of the store together with Limited Collection and Per Una.

The store, which has two cafes and a deli bar, has also employed some of the energy saving initiatives from its first ever "green" store in Bournemouth including self closing taps and lower energy usage escalators and movement sensor lighting.

M&S model Erin O'Connor opened the store together with head of clothing Kate Bostock. It was a busy day for the retailer which also reopened a refurbished its store on Dublin's Grafton Street this week.
