Marks & Spencer is readying the launch of a card-based loyalty scheme called Sparks, Drapers understands.
The programme is due to begin shortly with a trial of around 500 select customers, ahead of a nationwide launch in September if successful, a person close to the situation revealed.
The Sparks card will reward shoppers for buying general merchandise such as clothing from its Best of British, Autograph and Collection ranges, as well as food.
However, it will focus on offering exclusive benefits and personalised offers instead of the point-based system used by the likes of Tesco and Sainsbury’s.
A spokeswoman for M&S told Drapers: “At our recent prelims presentation we said that being more in-touch with our customers was one of our priorities for the year ahead. However, we would not comment on rumour and speculation about future activity.”
