Marquee Brands buys sports label

Sports and outdoor brand Dakine has been bought by Marquee Brands.

Included in the deal are all intellectual property rights to the brand. Marquee has also entered into a long-term license agreement with JR286, which has acquired the operating assets of Dakine and will become Marquee Brands’ long-term operating partner for the brand.

Founded in 1979 in Maui, Dakine became a hit with Hawaii’s surfers and is now based between Oregan and Annecy in France selling snow, surf and biking bags, backpacks, gear and accessories.

Marquee Brands currently has retail sales of $1.5bn (£1.2bn) generated from its portfolio consisting of Bruno Magli, Ben Sherman, Body Glove, BCBG Max Azria, and BCBGeneration.
