Mary Portas to headline Bira High Street Conference

Mary Portas will examine the challenges and opportunities for independent retailers at the British Independent Retailers Association’s 2015 High Street Conference, which takes place in Warwickshire in May.

Portas, who produced a government-commissioned report on UK high streets in 2011 and stars in the ongoing TV series Mary Queen of Shops, will talk delegates through her plans for driving future improvements. She will be joined by various supply and retailing experts, including John Lewis Partnership veteran Andrew McMillan, who will focus on the customer experience.

Incoming Bira president Cliff Elliott said: “Independent retailers have a crucial part to play in the survival of our high streets and we can no longer sit back and wait for something to happen. Embracing and implementing change and continuing to offer a service like no other will all help to future-proof our businesses and our high streets.”

The conference will be held at Chesford Grange in Warwickshire on May 13. A gala awards dinner will follow.
