Matalan splits with supplier over 'pricing dispute'

Discount retailer Matalan has reportedly dropped one of its manufacturers following a disagreement over pricing.

Sources told The Sunday Times Matalan chief executive Jason Hargreaves has severed ties with Korea-based supplier JJ Global following an argument with its boss, Kenny Kim.

It comes as pressure mounts on UK retailers to counter rising import costs associated with the falling value of sterling following the Brexit referendum.

Earlier this month, Matalan revealed its EBITDA jumped 570% to £15.4m for the 13 weeks to 27 August, after it fixed problems at its distribution centre in Knowsley. However, sales fell 7% to £245.5m.

Matalan declined to comment.
