Italian brand house MaxMara is understood to be searching for a UK flagship for its Pennyblack brand.
The group, which includes womenswear brands MaxMara, Max&Co and Marina Rinaldi, is believed to be seeking a store of about 3,500 sq ft on London’s Regent Street for the younger, lower-priced brand.
Contemporary womenswear brand Pennyblack is aimed at the over-30s.
It is strong on layering, with slim-legged trousers and loose-cut dresses in silk or jersey teamed with chunky long cardigans, short leather jackets and soft tailored blazers.
Pennyblack already has stand-alone stores in several countries including Italy, Spain, China and Poland. It also has 85 UK wholesale stockists, mostly independents.
Pennyblack is also set to launch its first shop-in-shop at premium indie Lynx in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, where owner Guy Hudson has devoted the third floor of the store to the brand. The floor is being refitted in the style of Pennyblack’s Milan flagship, with stone floors and minimal fittings. It is due to open in March.
Pennyblack will also open its first UK corner in department store Bentalls in Kingston upon Thames, Surrey, later this year.
