May sunshine boosts footfall

Improving weather helped footfall edge up by 0.2% in comparison with last year for the week commencing 30 April. 

The Springboard footfall index showed that in the week before the bank holiday weekend high streets and retail parks in particular experienced the benefits of the increasingly warm weather, showing footfall increases of 0.9% and 04% respectively. Shopping centres performed less favourably, however, with a 1.3% drop in footfall nationwide.

Despite the overall positive results in the high streets, 5 out of 10 areas showed a decline. Scottish high street footfall falling by 2.7%.
