McArthurGlen is planning to target womenswear brands already operating in the Swindon area for the expansion of its designer outlet in the town this year.
The business is looking to add a further 12 to 14 labels to the brand mix following the regeneration of the outlet, which when completed in early 2015 will add 50,000 sq ft of retail space to the current 200,000 sq ft.
McArthurGlen UK managing director Sven Gaede declined to name brands but said it would look for those already with a following in Swindon’s catchment area.
However, he insisted the move would not have an adverse effect on local businesses.
“We are looking at both high street stores and brands in the local area. It’s not cannibalisation as we have a different product offer.”
The group reported an 8% increase in like-for-like sales in December.
