McArthurGlen scores Christmas sales rise

Sales at outlet chain McArthurGlen rose 4% over the five weeks to January 3 boosted by shoppers seeking out discounted designer clothing for Christmas parties and Christmas gifts.

McArthurGlen’s seven stores recorded a 1.5% rise in footfall over the period with the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet near Chester, reporting a year-on-year sales increase of more than 20% on Boxing Day.

Designer brands performed particularly well over the Christmas period, with sales up 20% according to the retailer. Kidswear also performed well, with sales up by 63% over the period.

Henrik Madsen, McArthurGlen’s managing director for the UK and Northern Europe, said:  “We have seen the number of sales transactions rise by 10% compared with the same period last year. As we enter 2010, we are in a position of strength as we seek new opportunities, new brand partnerships.”

McArthurGlen Designer Outlets are located in Ashford, Bridgend, Cheshire Oaks, Livingston, East Midlands, Swindon and York. All stores sell high street and designer brands at a discount of up to 60%.
