Menswear boosts John Lewis weekly fashion sales

John Lewis fashion sales were up 11.9% for the week ended April 9, compared with the same period last year.

Last week’s performance was ahead of the average growth rate over the past 10 weeks of 2.2%.

However, last week’s fashion sales were behind those of electricals, home and technology, which rose by 12.7%, and homewares, up 21.7% year on year.

Total sales at John Lewis during the week reached £79.2m, up from £68.8m in 2015 and £73.8m in 2014.

Retail services director Barry Matheson said: “Fashion sales continue to be affected by cooler spring weather, but a good week for beauty and menswear meant that fashion finished the week up 11.4%.”
