Merrell buoys Wolverine Q4 results

Active footwear brand Merrell has helped propel the Wolverine footwear group to an 8% rise in net earnings to $25.6 million (£12.9m) for the fourth quarter.

Group net earnings increased by 11% to $92.9m (£46.6m) for the full-year and with the Merrell order book 10% up year-on-year, the company said it sees the pace of sales growth continuing.

Group sales in the fourth quarter rose by 5% to $357.4 million (£179m) and Wolverine sales for the year were $1.2 billion (£600m) against $1.14bn (£570m) the previous year.

The results mark the seventh consecutive year of record sales for the group.

Wolverine president and chief executive Blake Krueger said: “Overall, the Outdoor Group set the pace, with the Merrell business posting robust double-digit increases in both revenue and earnings for the year. Merrell enters 2008 with very positive momentum in all geographic regions. Heritage Brands Group and Wolverine Footwear Group all posted revenue gains for the year."

Wolverine owns brands including Caterpillar, Hush Puppies, and Sebago.
