Mid-market fashion store sales rise 3.7%

Fashion sales at mid-market high street chains were up by 3.7% for the week ended September 20 compared to the same period last year, according to the BDO High Street Sales Tracker.

The comparative week in September last year was described as “extremely challenging” as warm weather hit sales of autumn 14 stock.

Lifestyle performed well within department stores last week, but fashion sales slumped. However, mainstream retailers did well and largely outperformed their designer counterparts.

BDO said some retailers saw improved like-for-likes on the back of targeted promotional campaigns.

The tracker measures more than 35 mid-market retailers including French Connection, White Stuff, Oasis, Karen Millen, Coast, Hobbs and TM Lewin. It does not include online sales.
