Mike Ashley accuses MPs of creating a ‘media circus’

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley has accused MPs who want him to appear before the select committee of trying to create a “media circus”.

The founder of Sports Direct sent a letter to the chairman of the business, innovation and skills committee and Labour MP, Iain Wright, which said he was “disgusted to learn that you have adopted a stance that is deliberately antagonistic,” The Times has reported.

Ashley has been warned that he could be “in contempt of the House” if he fails to give evidence at Westminster over the treatment of his workers before June 1. He has until March 21 to reply.
