Mike Ashley denies Sports Direct privatisation plans

Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley has denied rumours he intends to take the company private.

It has been claimed that the retail tycoon, who owns a number of retailers and brands under the Sports Direct business, was plotting to buy out its minority shareholders, who own 49% of the company.

However, a spokesman for Ashley told the Evening Standard: “I have spoken to Mike directly and there is not a shred of truth in these rumours.”
