Ashley has opened talks with the board about making the appointment over the next few weeks, according to Sky News, as he wants to add Sports Direct’s brands onto Findel’s Express Gifts arm.

Sports Direct owns nearly 30% of Findel and Ashley previously attempted and failed to force a Sports Direct director onto Findel’s board after requesting a shareholder meeting last November.

Analysts expect Sports Direct to report a fall in pre-tax profits from £300m to £292m when it announces its latest results on Thursday.
