Mike Ashley strengthens family ties

Sports Direct owner Mike Ashley has given his daughter’s 26-year-old boyfriend senior roles at four companies in his growing empire.

Since April, Michael Murray has been appointed as a director at MGM Grand Newcastle Limited, Mash Services, T&M Leisure Reading and McGrove Developments; all businesses linked to the tycoon, according to the Telegraph.

Murray has also been made property director at Sports Direct to lead a £250m roll out of its merged clothing and gym formats, as reported in September, though he hasn’t been appointed to the board.

The move is expected to bring fresh scrutiny to the business, which is due to report its half-year results this week.
