Sports Direct's Mike Ashley told to reveal private texts in legal case

Sports Direct founder Mike Ashley has been ordered to hand over private text messages to lawyers acting for a former advisor to the retailer, who is suing him for £14m.

Former strategic development director Jeff Blue claims he was promised a £15m payout if he could double Sports Direct’s share price to 800p within three years, according to the Financial Times.

Ashley has reportedly denied that an agreement was struck, dismissing the conversation as “banter”.

A High Court judge has now ruled that text messages are among the files that must be handed over, to clarify the relationship between the two men.

Sports Direct shares closed above 800p for the first time in February 2014. Blue, who left Sports Direct last year, claims he was paid £1m but should have received much more.
