Owner of Sports Direct, Mike Ashley, has encouraged two employment agencies to answer MPs’ questions about pay and working conditions at his business, despite refusing to go to parliament himself.

Ashley has written to the directors of employment agencies used by Sports Direct Transline Group and the Best Connection, saying they should be “open and honest” with MPs, according to The Financial Times.

In a letter seen by the paper Ashley said: “I am writing to put on record that I encourage you to attend and to be open and honest, Sports Direct has nothing to hide.”

It is not yet known if Ashley will attend parliament next week to answer MPs’ questions about pay and conditions at the sports chain.
