Milan Fashion Week: Giorgio Armani

Giorgio Armani delivered a stand-out collection of softly-cut, discerning grey tailoring and a compelling selection of autumn 11 outwear options in Milan yesterday.

Texture was the by-word of the Italian designer’s collection as loosely tailored, sumptuous velvet grey trousers, all over grey satin waistcoats and, light-grey flannel DB suiting cut a dash on the catwalk.

The collection oozed an effortless elegance as Armani’s tailoring took a casual direction, while outwear was key and offered the high street plenty of commercial options to interpret.

Layering was a key theme as jersey tops were styled underneath light cardigans and then a light weight blazer. Neck lines were also a point of interest as shawl necks and funnel necks both featured on jumpers.

The palette stuck strictly to variations of grey and Armani only diverted from this to feature highlight shades such as an inky black on sheepskin mittens, or an olive green injection via a tie.

A shin-length overcoat with a ninja-esque hood and military button plackets was stand out, as was a short and sporty bomber jacket in light grey, and a padded jacket with asymmetric zip detail.
