The autumn 11 catwalk season kicked off in Milan this weekend, with soft tailoring and strong silhouettes a key feature of the shows so far.
Prada showed suits, jackets and coats with broad, boxy shoulders, sometimes teamed with plus fours and knee-high socks in earthy autumnal hues.
Dolce & Gabbana veered in the other direction in terms of silhouette, and served up slim-fitting body conscious suits. Some were double-breasted with vintage-inspired contrast colour lapels, conjuring up a dandy feel that was carried through on heavy duty double breasted coats, also with contrast lapels in luxe fabrics and fur.
Burberry Prorsum served up bright splashes of colour on heavy car coats, inspired by Burberry ads from the early 1960s, as well as mackintoshes in tangerine and bright yellow. These sat alongside oversized sculptural coats in stiff wools, in outsized blanket checks.
