Mint Velvet targets market towns for expansion

Mint Velvet is to open new stores in Petersfield in Hampshire and Thame in Oxfordshire, and at the Clarks Village outlet centre in Steet, Somerset, over the coming months.

The womenswear retailer will open in Petersfield on 5 October, followed by Clarks Village in November and Thame in December.

It opened a new store in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, in July.

Mint Velvet now has a total of 136 locations including standalone stores, concessions and outlets.

At the end of August, Mint Velvet introduced a 60-piece kidswear collection for girls aged three to 10, called Mintie, to be sold in selected Mint Velvet and John Lewis stores and online.

Last year Mint Velvet chief executive Liz Houghton picked up an OBE for services to business and charity.

Houghton started the business with co-founders Jane Rawlings and Lisa Agar-Rea in 2009 after the trio saw a gap in the market for luxurious womenswear that could be worn every day. It is now stocked in John LewisHouse of Fraser and Next, among others.
