Mitzy bag boosts Mulberry

Mulberry is backing its new, younger-looking handbag range to be its bestseller for spring 09 after positive early feedback from buyers.

The luxury accessories brand has launched three collections for spring 09, called Mitzy, Jenah and Joelle. This is Mulberry’s first full collection under new creative director Emma Hill, who previously held design roles at Gap and Marc by Marc Jacobs.

The Mitzy collection has been designed to complement the brand’s ready-to-wear clothing range, which targets a slightly younger customer.

A spokeswoman for Mulberry said: “We’ve had some really positive feedback from buyers, including from My-Wardrobe, Matches and Net-a-Porter. The younger Mitzy family could be one of our bestsellers.”

The Mitzy collection comes in three styles – a tote, satchel and hobo – with retail prices starting from £350. Styles are available in patent leathers in lipstick pink, white, beige and turquoise.

The Jenah range features a signature twisted chain and silk twill handles. The more luxurious collection is available in violet-coloured ostrich skin with retail prices from £395 to £795.

The Joelle offer is more in line with Mulberry’s iconic handbags, and is typified by soft, pleated leather. Retail prices range from £195 to £595.
