Karl-Heinz Müller has issued an apology to exhibitors and visitors for cancelling his plans to transfer Bread & Butter to Barcelona in January.
At the July event Müller announced he was taking the show back to Barcelona on January 8-10, putting it as the first event of the season. But, as Drapers reported on Saturday, negative reaction from brands and buyers has prompted a U-turn. BBB will now run on January 19-21 alongside the other Berlin events.
In a statement issued yesterday (Monday), Müller said: “In numerous talks with the decision makers of our fashion industry it became clear that in the current market situation they would prefer to stick to the established format, despite the appeal and the possibilities of the new. At the moment, most of the exhibitors are focused on the healthy and reliable German market.
“I would like to herewith apologise to our exhibitors, visitors and partners for the uncertainty and eventual inconveniences caused. I assure you that we will continue to work with full power on the further contemporary development of Bread & Butter.”
Explaining his reasoning for making the announcement in the first place, he said: “The benefits of an additional event in Barcelona with its Mediterranean flair are perfectly obvious, especially with regards to its exceptionally successful influence on fashion, and this despite the continuing crisis in southern Europe.
“I wish for an enhanced southern European influence at Bread & Butter. I hope we will succeed to bring to Berlin those numerous Spanish and southern European brands that have already registered for Barcelona. This is the fundamental idea behind our alternating concept.
“At the moment I cannot say yet if or when we will hold an event in Barcelona in the future, maybe in addition to Berlin. As I have said in my presentation: Maybe a summer event in Barcelona is more advisable.”
BBB will take place in Seoul in September 2015 as planned.
