Müller speaks out with letter to Bread & Butter exhibitors

Bread & Butter organiser Karl-Heinz Müller has sent a letter to exhibitors, requesting they confirm attendance for the January edition of the tradeshow or book another event.

The letter comes after B&B announced on Tuesday (December 2) that the January edition, which is scheduled to show between January 19-21, would be downsized to just one hall of Tempelhof Airport. But yesterday (December 4) following speculation that the show could be cancelled, B&B assured Drapers it was not.

According to Sportswear International, Müller has sent the following letter today:

“The plans that Bread & Butter could not realise in the last seasons (consumer days, Barcelona) have led to a drastic decline in bookings for the event of the upcoming season in January 2015.

The radical structural change in the fashion industry and the intensified competition in Berlin, Germany and Europe contributed to the fact that Bread & Butter has not been able to gather the number of exhibitors necessary to realize a significant event.

Apart from that, the coverage of the trade press within the last days has led to numerous cancellations from further exhibitors who had already registered, so that in the end there is only a small number of exhibitors left.

Therefore, we would now like to leave it up to you to book another event, so that you have no damage at the season start.

If you want to stick to your booking at Berlin-Tempelhof despite the current circumstances, we ask you to please reconfirm your booking.

However at this moment we cannot predict how many exhibitors will attend the event in the end.

Therefore, please inform us of your decision as soon as possible.

Thank you and best regards

Karl-Heinz Müller“

  • Again, who cares! I am really tired of hearing about this! Why is this "breaking news" worthy. By the very nature of the concerned parties having been written, surely everybody remotely interested in this outdated show has been informed of any trivial development?

  • Never met this guy but in football terms having observed his behaviour I think it's time to go.

  • B&B was passed some time ago, yet this horse keeps getting flogged. Put it down!

  • With respect to the Bread and Butter team - it has to be accepted that Karl Heinz's trade show was a concept never seen before. The quality and range of brands exhibited, contributed towards having some of the best global buyers, bloggers and peers of industry all under one roof. I doubt anyone will ever experience an event of this magnitude ever again. Up until 2012, it was THE event on the trade show calendar.
    Bloody expensive though!!
