Monsoon Accessorize in US push

Fashion group Monsoon Accessorize is expanding its US business after selling the license for its stores to a franchise partner.

The retailer, which launched in the US two years ago with its Accessorize brand, has sold the US Accessorize license to Retail Group of America (RGA), which is a subsidiary of Fawaz A. Alhokair & Co – its current franchising partner across the Middle East. The retailer expects the partnership to “accelerate expansion” in the US, where there are seven Accessorize stores but none for sister clothing retailer Monsoon.

RGA plans to increase the number to more than 30 stores in “premium shopping” locations in the next three months.

Monsoon Accessorize founder Peter Simon said: “We view the sale of the US retail business to RGA as a very positive way forward to accelerate store openings and increase brand awareness. We see the US as an opportunity to strengthen our global presence.”

The retailer is also relaunching its website in the US to incorporate the Monsoon business. Customers will be able to visit both brands at Monsoonusa.com and Accessorize.com.
