Monsoon appoints new brand director

Monsoon has promoted Philip Walker to brand director of Monsoon Accessorize, replacing Deepi Sekhon, who left the business last April after six and a half years.

Walker joined the womenswear and accessories retailer in August as buying and merchandising director and is now responsible for design, buying and merchandising and the day-to-day running of the business.

He will work with creative director Suzie Laing and brand advisor Nikki Hamwee on creative strategy and design, as well as developing new commercial ranges.

The reasons for Sekhon’s departure last year are not known and she is yet to resurface in another role. Her responsbilities were split between the rest of the team while a replacement was sought.

Prior to working at Monsoon, Walker was buying and merchandising director at New Look for 10 months, having been promoted from group sourcing and menswear director, a position he held for almost two years.

Walker spent eight years as buying and merchandising director at kidswear retailer Adams from May 1996 until June 2005.

In February Monsoon Accessorize promoted finance director Paul Allen to interim chief executive with immediate effect, as John Browett stepped down.

Allen joined the company in early 2013 and was previously chief executive of womenswear retailer Jacques Vert. He joined Jacques Vert as finance director following senior roles at Price Waterhouse (now PwC).

Former Dixons and Apple retail boss Browett, who joined in February 2013, left to pursue other opportunities.
