Piggott announced his intention to retire last September and will step down from the board in May, although will continue to work within the group until Bennett joins, which is expected to be August 15.

Bennett joined multichannel menswear retailer Charles Trywhitt in 2009 and was previously head of commercial finance at Selfridges.

Moss Bros has also appointed Paula Minowa as chief operating officer, who will join the menswear business on March 1 and will become a member of the executive committee, reporting to chief executive Brian Brick.

She will be responsible for the customer journey across all channels and markets in the newly-created role.

Minowa became chief executive of German lifestyle multichannel retailer Strauss Innovation in May 2012 and was previously managing director of Ann Summers from January 2009 to July 2012. She was brand and communications director at Asda from October 2003 to June 2008.

Brick said: “We have in recent years established Moss Bros as a growing and successful menswear business. Tony and Paula join us at a time where we have considerable opportunity to leverage the Moss Bros brand in new channels and new territories.”
