Mothercare bolsters management team

Mothercare has boosted its management team with two new hires, appointing its first chief information officer and a new retail operations director.

Chief information officer Michelle Barkess joined last week from Matalan, where she spent 11 years first as head of IT and latterly as IT director, will oversee all of Mothercare’s IT programmes and systems.

James Graham will join on April 7 as retail operations director. He replaces Nick Henwood, who left Mothercare in November last year to join leisure firm David Loyd.

Graham will oversee all Mothercare stores in the UK and will be heavily involved in its ongoing store refurbishment programme. He was previously head of director of retail operations at Specsavers and spent 12 years, from 2001 until 2013, in various management positions at Tesco, including as stores director.
