Mother’s Day boosts fashion sales at John Lewis

John Lewis has reported a 9.8% increase in fashion sales for the week to March 5, as shoppers stocked up on Mother’s Day gifts.

Total sales at the department store group were up 7.7% to £78.2m. Handbags and jewellery performed well for the week, up 24.2% and 21.1% respectively.

Jon Williams director of merchandising operations at John Lewis, said: “We had a good week overall. Mother’s Day in particular helped drive strong sales in both Fashion and Home directorates. This week our customers look forward to Easter, which is now appearing in our top search terms online.”
