Mr Porter to expand with sportswear site

Designer menswear etailer Mr Porter will launch a dedicated sportswear mini site next week.

Mr Porter Sport, which will be accessed via the main Mrporter.com site, will go live on April 28 with an initial offering of more than 150 products from 25 brands.

At launch, the mini site will be split into nine disciplines: running, cycling, tennis, golf, training, outdoor, swimming, sailing and general fitness accessories.

It will feature 10 new specialist labels, including cycle clothing brand Castelli, outdoor label Arc’teryx, running label Newton Running and sportswatch manufacturer Suunto. They will sit alongside 15 brands already stocked by Mr Porter, including Nike, Lacoste, Musto and Sperry.

The etailer said it plans to incorporate other activities, such as ski and surf, later in the year, as well as add additional labels.

The buying will be handled by the existing in-house team, led by buying director Toby Bateman. He said the edit will focus on “technical performance” labels.

Mr Porter, which was founded in January 2011, will be part of the Yoox Net-a-Porter Group, due to be created by the merger deal which should be finalised in September. Its sister site, Net-a-Porter, launched its own sports offshoot in July 2014.
