Mr Start store to close in September as brand put on hold

Philip Start’s own brand store Mr Start will close in September following the closure of his multibrand menswear and womenswear stores earlier this year.

“We have decided to close the Mr Start store order to rethink the brand,” said the menswear tailoring business in an email to its database.

Philip Start told Drapers: “The store has been trading profitably but it is time to rethink the brand. It will continue in future.”

The label, which was established in 2008, was based at 40 Rivington Street in Shoreditch.

Start decided not to renew its leases at the womenswear store at 42-44 Rivington Street and the menswear store at 59 Rivington Street, and closed both stores earlier this year.

The multibrand business was founded in 2002 and offered brands including  Acne, Kenzo, Comme de Garçons, Nudie Jeans and Maison Margiela.
