M&S third quarter Christmas results: Twitter reaction

Marks & Spencer has reported its third-quarter general merchandise sales fell by 5.8%, citing warm weather in October and November and disruption at its Castle Donington distribution centre in December. Drapers rounds up the reaction on Twitter.

@Natalie_Berg: So much for Bolland’s promise to “return to growth” online by Xmas.Sales -6%. Black Friday didn’t help but simply couldn’t keep up w/ demand

@patrick_verdict: 2 struggling UK retail giants. 1 [Tesco] at least as a plan now, the other appears to be waiting for shoppers to come round to its way of thinking.

@DeMelloRetail: In addition to ongoing issues with the new website problems with their giant Castle Donington warehouse added to M&S’ online woes over Xmas

@Retail_Guru: But even excluding online woes, M&S clothing sharply down. So much for great fashion reception of CEO’s hand picked team.
