M&S to anchor Oldham Prince’s Gate development

Marks & Spencer has signed up to be the anchor tenant at a £60m development in Oldham town centre.

The retailer will open a 51,000 sq ft store which will stock clothing, home and food at the Prince’s Gate at Oldham Mumps development.

Oldham Council said development on the centre will begin in phases starting onsite in 2015, and it expects the M&S store to open in 2017.

Jim McMahon, Oldham Council leader, said: “This is one of the most ambitious redevelopments for Oldham town centre since the 1980s and will be developed in phases starting onsite in 2015. The next significant phase, including opening the new retail development – and the proposed M&S store – is set for 2017.”

An M&S spokesman said: “We can confirm that we have now exchanged contracts for a full line store in the Prince’s Gate development and look forward to progressing plans in the near future.”
