M&S to take on 20,000 Christmas staff

Marks & Spencer is to take on 20,000 extra staff for Christmas this year – an increase of 5,000 on the 2011 festive season.

The staff, who will be split across 500 stores in UK and Ireland, will be offered a range of roles including customer assistant, café assistant and store operations.

All recruits will receive a two-day training session and rewards packages including 20% discount on M&S products.

Last year saw more than one in five of the 15,000 temporary staff stay on to take permanent roles after Christmas.

Last week value retailer Matalan announced it was looking out for 5,000 temporary staff for the festive season, while Amazon is hiring 10,000 to cope with additional demand.
