The Hut pulls new site out of the bag

Etailer The Hut has launched a dedicated handbag and accessories site called and is planning more standalone fashion sites.

The Hut, which operates its eponymous general merchandise website, on which it offers a limited number of clothing and accessories brands including Bench, Suzy Smith and Hello Kitty, said it had launched a separate bags and accessories site to help it get support from more premium brands. offers mid-market brands including Mischa Barton, Bench and Red or Dead with prices ranging from about £25 to £200. The Hut commercial director Richard Chapple said the site hoped to attract luxury brands with price points of up to £800.

Michelle Marley, a former buyer for home-shopping group Shop Direct, has been appointed handbag and accessories buyer at The Hut and will build the standalone site’s offer.

The Hut is looking for online acquisitions to bolt on to its existing business. In September, it received an investment from a consortium of backers including financial services firm Clearwater Corporate Finance.

Chapple said The Hut was exploring launching further standalone websites in categories including footwear and fashion.

Any separate fashion site launched by The Hut would offer free delivery to customers, providing a unique selling point, according to Chapple.
