Designer Karl Lagerfeld is to unveil his much-anticipated capsule collection for US department store chain Macy’s today (July 20).
It is reported that the collection, which will begin selling in August, will include flashes of his signature style, including high-collared pieces and “edgier” rock ‘n’ roll product. Pricing is as yet unknown but it is expected to be moderate in line with Macy’s price point.
The collaboration is part of an ongoing strategy at Macy’s to raise the profile of its contemporary “impulse” fashion department. It currently has about 230 “impulse” areas in its 800-strong store portfolio and it is understood to be looking to expand the format.
Macy’s launched its first collaboration in February with British designer Kinder Aggugini and followed it up in April with a collection with Matthew Williamson. According to speculation, a fourth collaboration with Italian designer Giambattista Valli will be launched in November, and special holiday collection, which is also expected to include pieces by Lagerfeld.
