Consultation on Westfield’s plans for a new £1bn mixed-use quarter directly to the north of the existing Westfield London shopping centre in White City, west London, has begun.
The plans for a mixed-use retail and residential offer will add to Westfield’s adjacent shopping centre, with additional shops including a new department store – widely anticipated to be John Lewis, which is opening an anchor at the developer’s upcoming scheme at Stratford City - in around 500,000 sq ft (48,000 sq m) of new retail space.
Retail is expected to be part of the first phase of the project, which will also include cafes and restaurants, landscaped public spaces, new leisure and community facilities and around 1,700 new homes.
The site comprises parcels of land Westfield bought up at the time of the original development of its flagship mall, which opened in 2008. It forms a significant part of the White City Opportunity Area, which is being promoted by the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham and the Greater London Authority.
