Kidswear sales enjoy positive week at John Lewis

Kidswear led the fashion charge at John Lewis this week with sales up 77% compared to the same week in 2011.

Womenswear sales were also strong in the week to September 29, up by 41.5% as the retailer’s Somerset by Alice Temperley range continued to drive sales.

In footwear, women’s boots also saw a massive year-on-year increase of 195%.

In menswear, the retailer said that its own brand lines and branded casual wear that proved to be the best sellers.

Overall sales at the department store group were up 26.5% on the previous year as the cold and wet weather helped stores and online to trade strongly.

Online achieved a sales increase of 48.4%, recording the second highest number of customer visits to the website ever.

“With great increases from all three buying directorates, it was a strong week all round,” said Maggie Porteus, head of selling operations new format for John Lewis.

“This week sees the launch of the Christmas department in all of our shops and that is the signal to our customers to start their Christmas purchasing in earnest.”
