Mystery overseas backer bids on BHS

A wealthy foreign family has reportedly registered a bid set up a trading vehicle as part of an attempt to buy stricken retailer BHS.

The identity of potential investor is unclear but some believe it to be associated with the Angolan president’s daughter, Sky News has reported.

Sources have told the news outlet the benefactor could be a party associated with Isabel dos Santos, Africa’s first female billionaire and the daughter of Angolan president José Eduardo dos Santos.

An unrelated Portuguese dos Santos family may also be behind the bid, according to the sources.

Other known bidders for BHS include Matalan founder John Hargreaves and Poundstretcher parent company Crown Crest.

Insiders expect the sale of BHS to be completed within 48 hours.
