N Brown buying and merchandising director exits

Online and home shopping group N Brown has streamlined its operating board as JD Williams’ buying and merchandising director Joe Fogwill departs.

Fogwill, who joined the plus-size womenswear brand in 2003, has not been directly replaced. N Brown’s merchandise and central operations director Ralph Tucker has been promoted to the new role of product director for the group, heading up buying and merchandising across all categories and departments.

N Brown said it wants to bring all of its buying and merchandising departments into one to “drive consistency and improve efficiency”.

A spokeswoman said: “Joe Fogwill has been with JD Williams for 12 years and, in that time, has made a terrific contribution. His tenacity and commercial focus has really enabled the growth of our home and gift business. We would like to personally recognise and thank him for that and we wish him every success in the future.”

The news follows N Brown’s second profit warning last month. The business blamed an extended clearance period following the warm autumn, strategic changes to its pricing structure in the fourth quarter and the closure of catalogue and online womenswear business Gray & Osbourn for the decline in revenues and profit.

Last September, the group hired Peter Moffatt as head of design for JD Williams, womenswear brand Simply Be and menswear brand Jacamo, with a similar aim of making its fashion more consistent. Design was previously overseen by the separate buying teams for each brand.

  • They still haven't got it right. Expect more disappointing results.
