N Brown hit with marketing VAT bill

N Brown Group, owner of JD Williams, Simply Be and Jacamo, has said it expects to pay an additional £6m to £9m in marketing costs from 2020 following a draft tribunal ruling from Revenue and Customs.

N Brown said it will seek to mitigate the costs by improving operational efficiencies. The ruling relates to a dispute over marketing costs for goods and financial services.

The case was first heard in May this year and relates to the period from 2006 to 2016.

N Brown said it was considering whether to appeal the decision.
