New Balance creates general manager role

New Balance has promoted Mark Ward to the newly created role of general manager for the UK and Republic of Ireland to support the sports footwear brand’s UK growth.

Ward was previously country manager for the territories with responsibility for sales. His new role includes responsibility for customer services and back-office functions.

According to Graham Dicken, New Balance head of marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa, Ward was promoted to oversee the brand’s UK growth strategy.

Dicken said: “We’ve seen sustained growth in the UK over the last three to four years.

“The UK now represents about 15% of the total European market for New Balance.”

Dicken added that New Balance’s manufacturing operation in Flimby in Cumbria had been instrumental in driving that growth. “People in the UK like the fact our products are made in the UK,” he said.

New Balance has 1,000 stockists in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
