New Burberry CEO to take over in July

New Burberry chief executive Marco Gobbetti will take over from Christopher Bailey on 5 July.

Gobbetti will join the business on 27 January from French luxury brand Céline, but his role will initially be limited to executive chairman of Asia Pacific and Middle East as he has to wait for certain contractual commitments to expire. He will report into chairman John Peace.

Bailey will remain chief creative and chief executive officer until then. Once Gobbetti moves into his permanent role, Baily will become president and chief creative officer.

He will remain on the board and continue to report into Peace.

As reported by Drapers last week, Burberry’s new chief operating and financial officer Julie Brown will start her role on 18 January.

Andrew Maag, Burberry’s chief executive of Europe, the Middle East, India and Africa left the business during the summer.
