New Look chairman steps down

Richard Lapthorne has stepped down as chairman of New Look after two and a half years at the business.

Lapthorne who joined the business in 2005 has stepped down with immediate effect.

A company spokesman said: “Lapthorne had been there for a good chunk of time and overseen a lot of transformation at the business.”

New Look’s owners Apax and Permira attempted to sell the business earlier this year. However bids were well under the mooted £2 billion price tag attached to the chain and the private equity firms took the business off the market.

New Look has not announced Lapthorne’s successor.

Lapthorne is also chairman at Cable & Wireless.
